What is a tithe?
The Bible teaches that God owns all things yet He calls on believers to be good managers (stewards) of His blessings (Luke 16:1-13). God’s Word refers to a tithe often. One of the examples shows Abraham presenting to God one-tenth (a tithe) of all his spoils (Genesis 14:18-21) and the book of Malachi establishes the importance of a tithe to God (Malachi 3:8-10). The standard set by the leadership of CCV—staff and elders—is 10% of gross earnings (before taxes).
It is important to understand that although God calls every Christ-follower to tithe, its not about the money … its about the heart. To deny Him a tithe is called “robbing God”, to deny Him your heart is to risk your entire relationship with Him.
"Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” (Malachi 3:8-11NASU)
"He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." (Luke 16:10-13 NASU).
Why Should I Give?
- Giving is one of the purest forms of worshipping God.
- Giving demonstrates a dedicated heart.
- Giving is an important part of God’s nature and should be an important part of the nature of every believer.
"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. … No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:20-21; 24 NASU)

Becoming Debt Free
If you were given a choice of being free or a slave, which would you choose? Free! Right? Most Christ-followers do not consider debt to be a form of slavery, but in fact, anything that removes your freedom of choice has you enslaved. We are told in God’s Word that we cannot serve two masters. If debt is your master then CCV would like to challenge you to begin the journey of becoming debt FREE. It is possible!
